Tech giant Google launched 'TalkBack - Virtual Braille Keyboard' for Android Users

  • Tech giant Google has launched a new Virtual Braille Keyboard named 'TalkBack' for Android users. The objective of this keyboard is to simplify smartphone typing for those who suffer from low vision or blindness.
  • The Product Manager of Android Accessibility, Mr. Brian Kemler said that this new TalkBack Virtual Braille Keyboard will directly be integrated into Android devices.
  • Highlights,
    - Google has a tie-up with Braille developers and Users to create this virtual braille keyboard. In another statement, Google said that the keyboard can be used anywhere and anytime.
    - Due to this, it will allow people with low vision or blindness to use their smartphones in a better way. It will also allow people to type without using any additional hardware.
  • TalkBack - Virtual Braille Keyboard,
    - The virtual braille keyboard will be compatible with the Android 5.0 version smartphones. Users can easily update or download the virtual braille keyword on the Google Play Store.
    - The talkBack braille keyboard uses a standard 6-key layout and each key represents one of six Braille dots which, when tapped, make any letter or symbol. e.g:-
    i) To type an A, the User would press dot 1.
    ii) To type a B, the User would press dots 1 and 2.
    iii) To type a C, the User would press dots 1 and 4.
    iv) To type a D, the User would press dots 1, 4, and 5.
