DRDO VRDE Ahmednagar Laboratory designed disinfection chamber


  • The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Vehicle Research Development Establishment (VRDE) Ahmednagar laboratory has designed a full-body disinfection chamber called 'PSE'.
  • The disinfection chamber has been manufactured by DH Limited, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), within 4-days. And, it can be used as disinfection of peoples at entry and exit to hospitals, malls, office buildings, etc.
  • About DRDO Disinfection Chamber,
    - This disinfection chamber is a portable system equipped with sanitizer and soap dispenser.
    - The decontamination starts using a foot pedal at the entry. Upon entering the chamber, an electrically operated pump creates a disinfectant mist of hypo sodium chloride for disinfecting.
    - The mist spray is calibrated for the operation of 25 seconds and stops automatically indicating completion of the operation. The system consists of roof-mounted and bottom tanks with a total of 700 liters capacity.
    - In this chamber, Around 650 personnel can pass through for disinfection until the refill is required.
  • In another step, RCI Hyderabad and TBRL Chandigarh have also developed a face protection mask for healthcare personnel handling COVID-19 patients. Around 1,000 face shields are being produced daily in TBRL and provided to PGIMER Chandigarh. Similarly, 100 are produced at RCI and these have been handed over to ESIC Hyderabad.
