India’s Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over the indigenously-made AWACS (Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft) system 'Netra' to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
DRDO handed over the indigenously developed Netra aircraft to Western Air Command Chief, Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar at Bathinda Air Base, Punjab.
It is designed and developed by DRDO scientists at Bengaluru-based Centre for Airborne Systems, and it is equipped with indigenously-made electronics and hardware.
DRDO-NETRA provides surveillance, tracking, identification, and classification of airborne and sea surface targets and is useful in detecting incoming ballistic missile threats.
