8 Apache helicopters inducted into IAF Station Pathankot


  • Today, Indian Air Force (IAF) inducted 8 new Apache 'AH-64E' attack helicopters into the 125 Helicopter Unit 'Gladiators' of the Force. The induction took place at IAF Station Pathankot.
  • Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa (age 61 years) and Western Air Commander Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar were present the induction ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Dhanoa said Apache attack helicopters are being purchased to replace the Mi-35 fleet.
  • Apache is one of the world's most advanced multi-role combat helicopters and is flown by the U.S. Army. India is the 14th country in the world to be operating the Apache attack helicopters.

    i) Manufacturer - Hughes Helicopters (1975–1984), McDonnell Douglas (1984–1997), and Boeing Defense, Space & Security (1997–present).
    ii) First flight - 30th September 1975.
    iii) Introduction - April 1986.
