- The Police Commemoration Day observed on 21st October around the country to remember the sacrifices of 10-policemen while defending the borders with China in 1959.
- On 21st October 1959, Chinese Army soldiers opened fire and throw grenades at the police party of 20 CRPF personnel near Ladakh.
- Out of 20-policemen 10 of them died, 7-were taken prisoners by the Chinese Army and 3 managed to escape.
- The yearly meeting of Inspectors General of Police (States & UT's) held in January 1960 decided that 21st October will be observed as Police Commemoration Day around the country.
