- Azizbek Ashurov- A human rights lawyer from Kyrgyzstan won the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award for the year 2019, for his work to end statelessness in the central Asian country.
- He was chosen for the human rights award in Geneva, through his organization Ferghana Valley Lawyers Without Borders (FVLWB), has helped well over 10 thousand people to gain Kyrgyz nationality after they became stateless following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
- The award, decided by a committee led by Switzerland and Norway, includes a commemorative medal and a USD 1,50,000 prize.
