DRDO successfully test-fired BrahMos land-attack version


  • Today, The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully test-fired BrahMos land-attack version from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur, Odisha.
  • The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, with a strike range of 290km, can be fired from Land as well as Sea-based platforms.
  • On 11th March 2017, the first version of the BrahMos missile was successfully test-fired. It had a strike range of 450km.

    About BrahMos missile
    i) The BrahMos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land.
    ii) BrahMos is the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world.
    iii) BrahMos is jointly made by the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya and DRDO (premier R&D organization of India), and these two organizations also have formed BrahMos Aerospace.
    iv) The name BrahMos is a portmanteau formed from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra (India) and the Moskva (Russia).
