- Eliud Kipchoge (age 35 years), the first man to run a marathon in less than two hours, and 400 meters hurdles world champion Dalilah Muhammad (age 29 years) won the World Athlete of the Year Awards.
- The winners were chosen following a vote shared 50% by World Athletics, 25% by athletes, coaches and journalists and 25% by the general public.
