- Indian career diplomat Shyam Saran will be conferred with Japanese 2nd highest national award 'Order of the Rising Sun' for his contributions to strengthening the strategic ties and enhancing mutual understanding between India and Japan.
- 'The Order of the Rising Sun' award established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji.
- Saran joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1970 and becomes the 26th Foreign Secretary of India from 31st July 2004 to 1st September 2006.
