IAF Receives first Apache Helicopter 'AH-64E(I)' from the USA


  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has received its first Apache Guardian Attack Helicopter 'AH-64E(I)' from the United States Of America (USA).
  • The Apache Guardian attack helicopter was formally handed over to India on 10th May at the chopper production facility in Arizona, US. Air Marshal AS Butola, represented the Indian Air Force and accepted the first Apache in a ceremony at Boeing production facility, representatives from US Government were also present.
  • India signed a contract for 22 of the Apache Guardian choppers with the US in September 2015. The first batch of these helicopters is scheduled to be shipped to India by July.
  • Aircrew and ground crew have already undergone training at the training facilities at US Army base Fort Rucker, Alabama. This trained personnel will lead operationalization of the Apache fleet in the IAF.
  • These attack helicopters will provide a significant edge in any future joint operations in support of land forces.
