- Current Affairs 9th March 2018. Abhinandan Varthaman (age 35 years) is an Indian Air Force Wing Commander has been chosen for the first recipient of the 'Bhagwan Mahavir Ahimsa Puraskar'.
- The award is instituted by the Akhil Bharatiya Digambar Jain Mahasamiti.
- Abhinandan (piloting a Mig-21 Bison) shot down a Pakistan Air Force F-16 with an R-73 air-to-air missile in a dogfight on 27th February 2019.
- The award will be presented to Abhinandan on 17th April 2019, carries a cash prize of Rs 2,51,000/-, a memento and a citation.
