- Qu Dongyu (age 56 years) of China has been appointed as the new Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
- Qu Dongyu received 108 votes out of 191, The election took place during the 41st session of the FAO Conference.
- He becomes the first Chinese to be elected as DG of UN Food Agency FAO.
- Qu Dongyu becomes 9th FAO Director-General since the Organization was founded on 16th October 1945.
