Padma Shri awardee Amitav Ghosh honored with 2018 Jnanpith Award

Indian writer Amitav Ghosh (age 63-years) honored with 54th Jnanpith Award. He becomes the first English author to win this award.
Jnanpith Award, the country’s highest literary award given to an author for outstanding contribution to literature.
In 2007, Ghosh was honored with Padma Shri and in 1989 Sahitya Akademi Award.
The popular novels of Ghosh are- "Shadow Lines", "The Glass Palace", "The Hungry Tide", and Ibis Trilogy -- "Sea of Poppies (2008)", "River of Smoke", and "Flood of Fire" -- chronicling the Opium trade between India and China run by the East India Company.
