- BJP leader and Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawarchand Gehlot (age 71 years) has been appointed as the leader of Rajya Sabha.
- Gehlot will replace Arun Jaitley who has had health issues and is recovering.
- Mr. Gehlot is a Rajya Sabha member representing the state of Madhya Pradesh.
