India join-hand with Portugal to Set Up a Maritime Museum


  • India join-hand with Portugal to set up a National Maritime Heritage Museum at Ancient Indian site of Lothal, Gujarat.
  • The Indian Navy will be the stakeholder in the project and the Portuguese Navy has agreed to assist with their experience of administering the maritime museum in Lisbon.
  • In March 2019, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the project and allocated a building for the museum.
  • The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Shipping through its Sagarmala program, with the involvement of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the State government and other stakeholders.
