- Renowned scientist Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has been appointed as the chief of India Meteorological Department (IMD) for a period of 5-years.
- Previously, Dr. Mohapatra joined the DRDO laboratory in Chandipur, Odisha.
- The IMD is responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting, and seismology. headquartered in Delhi and operates 100 of observation stations across India and Antarctica.
