  • German Politician Ursula von der Leyen (age 60 years) elected as the European Commission's first female president.
  • During 2013-2019. She served as Minister of Defence of Germany. and became the first woman to hold the office of German defense minister.
  • Her nomination was approved by 383 votes (required 374), a narrow margin of just 9-votes, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
