The Pink City of Jaipur made its entry into the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
The announcement was made after the 43rd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, underway at Baku (Azerbaijan) from 30th June to 10th July.
In a tweet, PM Modi said "Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valor. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur's hospitality draws people from all over. Glad that this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by @UNESCO."
In a tweet, CM of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot said, "#Jaipur listed on the world map as #WorldHeritage site is not only a matter of prestige but it will give a boost to tourism. The local economy will benefit along with the improvement of infrastructure."
UNESCO also added Iceland's Vatnaj-okull National Park, Europe's largest with a landscape of "fire and ice," to its World Heritage List.
