  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has dedicated the National War Memorial to the nation near India Gate in New Delhi.
  • The memorial honors about 26,000 soldiers, who have laid down their lives in the service of the nation since Independence.
  • The design of the National War Memorial has a layout comprising four concentric circles, namely,
    The 'Amar Chakra' or Circle of Immortality,
    The 'Veerta Chakra' or Circle of Bravery,
    The 'Tyag Chakra' or Circle of Sacrifice, and
    The 'Rakshak Chakra' or Circle of Protection.
  • The obelisk stands at a height of 15.5meterss and is visible even from a distance as one enters the complex.
