- The Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) led by Prime Minister Modi appointed the Retired General Bipin Rawat (age 61 years) as the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
- Prior to this, He served as Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee as well as 27th Chief of Indian Army.
- Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is the professional tri-service chief of the Indian Armed Forces and the Senior-most uniformed military adviser to the Government of India.
