Ursula von der Leyen appointed as new European Commission President

German politician Ursula von der Leyen (age 61 years) appointed as the first female President of the European Commission.
The European Commission (EC) is the executive branch of the European Union.
It is responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the EU treaties and managing the day-to-day business of the EU.
Now, the European Commission has 28 members.
