- The Central Railway has unveiled Lifeline Express at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai for providing medical treatment to poor patients.
- The Indian Railways in association with Impact India Foundation had launched the Lifeline Express (known as ‘Hospital on Wheels’) on 16th July 1991.
- The Lifeline Express has seven coaches which include- A Operation Theatre, A pathology lab, A mammography unit, A gynecology examination room, A dental unit, A pharmacy, Consultation cubicles, and X-Ray unit, etc.
- The train has traveled across 19-states, covering 201 rural locations in 138 districts providing medical treatment to 12,32,000 patients, including 1,46,000 cases of surgery and nearly 2,00,000 medical professionals from across the world have rendered their services to the train.
