- The National Sports Day is celebrated across the country on 29th August to mark the birth anniversary of hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, who was born on 29th August 1905.
- Padma Bhushan awardee Dhyan Chand had won the 3 Gold medals at 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympic games.
- He had known as 'The Wizard' or 'The Magician' of hockey for his superb ball control. During his career, he scored 570 goals in 185 matches.
- Shri Narendra Modi (14th Prime Minister of India) launched the 'Fit India Movement' on this day. The main objective of the movement- Healthy People, Healthy Family, and Healthy Society.
