- Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya- Country's first women DGP died at a hospital in Mumbai. She was 72-years.
- Kanchan (IPS: 1973-batch officer) was appointed as the DGP of Uttarakhand in 2004 and becomes the second woman IPS officer after Kiran Bedi.

ii) In 1997, the President's Medal for distinguished services.
