PM Narendra Modi launches RuPay card in UAE


  • PM Modi (14th Prime Minister of India) released the RuPay card in Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. Now, UAE is the first country in the Middle East where Indian RuPay card has been launched.
  • In 2012, The RBI had launched the RuPay card scheme in India to fulfill the domestic, open and multilateral system of payments.
  • RuPay card provides the electronic payment at all Indian banks and financial institutions. India has already launched the RuPay card in Singapore and Bhutan.
  • According to the report, NPCI in association with the Mercury Payments Services has made RuPay cards acceptable at 1,75,000 merchant locations and 5,000 ATM and cash access locations within the UAE.
