Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh elected to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan


  • Former Prime Minister (2004-2014) and Senior Congress leader Shri Manmohan Singh elected to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
  • During 1991-2019, he was a member of Rajya Sabha from Assam for 5-consecutive terms.
  • During the 70s and 80s, Mr. Singh (age 86 years) held various posts in the Government of India, such as Chief Economic Advisor in 1972–76, RBI Governor in 1982–85, and Head of the Planning Commission in 1985–87.

    About Rajya Sabha,
    i) It is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India.
    ii) Rajya Sabha has 245 members, out of which 233 are elected by States and UT's legislatures, and remaining 12 members are appointed by President for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services.
