- The National Handloom Day is observed on 7th August every year around the country to honor the handloom weavers and also highlight India’s handloom industry.
- On 7th August 2015, the first National Handloom Day was unveiled by PM Modi at Centenary Hall of Madras University in Chennai, Tamilnadu.
- This day to show the contribution of handloom to the socio-economic development of the country and increase the income of the weavers.
- This date was selected to remembring the Swadeshi Movement which was launched in 1905 in Calcutta Town hall to protest against the partition of Bengal by the British Govt.
