Najma Akhtar take-charge as first woman vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia

13 April 2019. Professor Najma Akhtar has been appointed as the first women vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia.
Smt. Akhtar has been appointed for a period of 5-years.
Smt. Akhtar becomes the first lady vice-chancellor of any central university in Delhi.
She is a gold medalist from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and completed her Ph.D. (Education) from Kurukshetra University.
She was the founder director of the State Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT), Uttar Pradesh, which was established for developing educational administrators for the country.
She has earned international accolades, including Commonwealth scholarship and the prestigious National Science Talent scholarship.
