- Current Affairs 5th April 2019. The Parliament of Sri Lanka passed this year Budget. The Sri Lanka Budget-2019 was passed with 119 votes cast in favor of the Bill while 74 votes against it.
- The ruling United National Party and Tamil National Alliance voted for the bill while joint opposition led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna voted against.
- President Sirisena is trying to seek re-election with alliance support but Joint opposition is mulling candidature of former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the candidate for Presidential elections scheduled later this year.
