Smriti Irani Unveil 3-day Silk Expo & Workshop on Silk Samagra in Imphal


1. Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated a three-day Silk Expo and Workshop on Silk Samagra in Imphal today. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and State Textiles, Commerce and Industries Minister Thongam Biswajit were also present.
2. Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Irani said that the Centre has recently approved setting up of an Eri Spinning Mill worth 22 Crore rupees for the expansion silk industry in the State. She added that the mill is expected to give employment to around 2500 people.
3. The Union Minister said, under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre has enhanced funding to North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) under which a large number of textile parks and textile units are currently functional in the North East region.
4. She said, in 2013-14, the fund allocation under NERTPS was only 2.86 Crore rupees and in the past four years, the NDA Government at the Centre has already spent 839 Crore rupees for the growth of textiles industry in the region.
5. She said that the Centre has announced a package of 6000 Crore rupees for the development of apparel and make-up sector in the country. Earlier, she distributed 1.73 Crore rupees through DBT to 322 beneficiaries of Integrated Sericulture Development Project (ISDP-Hills) for the construction of Individual Adult Rearing House (IARH).
