- Economist T.N. Srinivasan passed away at the age of 58-years in Chennai. Srinivasan awarded with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to development economics.
- He was also the chairman of the department of economics, a special adviser to the Development Research Center at the World Bank from 1977 to 1980.
