M. Venkaiah Naidu unveil first Indian war memorial in France


  • Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu unveil the first India-built war memorial in northern France to pay tribute to thousands of Indian soldiers who fought selflessly and made supreme sacrifices during World War I.
  • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who is on a three-day visit to Paris, will represent India at the Armistice of World War I centenary commemoration today. Armistice Day marks the 100 years since the end of World War One on 11 November 1918.
  • India constructed this war memorial at Villers Guislain to highlight the contribution of the soldiers of undivided India to the freedom of France in the World War I. The land in Villers-Guislain was donated by the French government to Government of India for constructing the memorial.
