The number of tigers at the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), the state's lone tiger reserve in Bihar's West Champaran district has increased to 35.
The Chief wildlife warden Bharat Jyoti told that between 2006 and 2010 the reserve had only 10 tigers, but successive census since then showed consistent growth in the population of big cats.
In 2013 the tiger count was 22. It rose to 28 in 2014-15. In 2016-17 the numbers went up to 31 and some Cubs. Now the count has touched 35.
