The union government allowed two million tons of sugar to be exported before the end of 2017 in the marketing year to clear surplus stocks and improve cash flow for millers to pay farmers for sugarcane. The government also allowed the export of white sugar until September 2018 under the scheme of free registration of imports (DFIA). According to which exporters are allowed to import sugar with zero duty for three years.
