The Modi government has made a big decision on the issue of marrying an NRI person. Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said that in India, girls will be registered within 48 hours of marriage with NRIs and if they do not, the passports and visas will not be issued.
There is no time limit for registration of marriage in India, although, in a report of the Law Commission, it has been recommended that registration be made mandatory within 30 days of marriage and after this period, the penalty is up to five rupees per day.
Maneka said that the portal has been prepared for this, registering marriage from NRI bridegrooms on this portal will have to be registered. So far, in these five cases, the passport of NRI bridegroom has been seized.
