1st December: World AIDS Day


  1. The World Aids Day is being celebrated every year on 1st December (since 1988) to raise public awareness about Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The theme of 2018 Aids Day is ‘Know your status’.
  2. Nagaland celebrates 55th formation Day. On 1st December 1963, it will become the 16th state of India. Today, Mr. Rajnath Singh has inaugurated 19th 'Hornbill Festival' in Nagaland.
  3. The Border Security Force (BSF) is celebrating its 54th Raising Day today. Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju attended the main ceremony at Chhawla Camp in New Delhi. The BSF is the largest border defense organization of India, with 186 battalions and over 2.57 lakhs military personnel.
  4. Indian Armed Forces Week is being celebrated from 1st to 7th December. The Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called upon people to show the support to the soldiers by wearing the Armed Forces Flag and celebrating the Armed Forces Week 2018 with enthusiasm.
  5. Former US President George HW Bush died on Friday at the age of 94, who presided over the end of the Cold War. His son, George W Bush also served as 43rd US President.
  6. India’s Olympic and World Champion Shooter Abhinav Bindra (36-year) has been conferred the sport’s highest honor for his outstanding services as the chairman of the International Shooting Sports Federation’s Athletes Committee. He was a member of the ISSF Athletes Committee from 2010 to 2014 and chairman from 2014 to 2018.
  7. The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the 13th edition of CII Agro Tech India-2018 today (1st December 2018) in Chandigarh. The UK is a partner country at the CII Agrotech this year.
