PM Shri Narendra Modi Condoles the Passing Away of Sir V.S. Naipaul


1. “Sir VS Naipaul will be remembered for his extensive works, which covered diverse subjects ranging from history, culture, colonialism, politics and more. His passing away is a major loss to the world of literature. Condolences to his family and well-wishers in this sad hour”, the Prime Minister said.

2. PM Modi Condoles the Passing Away of former Member of Parliament and Speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Somnath Chatterjee:- “Former MP and Speaker Shri Somnath Chatterjee was a stalwart of Indian politics. He made our Parliamentary democracy richer and was a strong voice for the well-being of the poor and vulnerable. Anguished by his demise. My thoughts are with his family and supporters’’, the Prime Minister said.

3. Shri Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates 20 Ghats in Kanpur and Bithoor:- Speaking at a ceremony at Chandrasekhar Azad University in Kanpur today, Shri Gadkari said that his Ministry is fully committed to cleaning Ganga and its tributary rivers, and there is no shortage of funds for this purpose. Stressing upon the need to create wealth from waste he said that methane from the sewage in Kanpur can be used for generating Bio-CNG, which can in turn be used for running the city transport.

4. Swachh Survekshan 2019:- It will be conducted across all cities and towns across the country between 4th – 31st January 2019. The distinctive features of the survey are geared towards encouraging large-scale citizen participation, ensuring sustainability of initiatives taken towards garbage free and open defecation free cities, providing credible outcomes which would be validated by third-party certification, institutionalizing existing systems through online processes and creating awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities a better place to live in.

5. EXIM (Export and Import Bank of India) has signed MoU with BRICS development Banks for promoting "Collaborative Research" in distributed ledger/ blockchain technology.
