Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification
  1. Navik (General Duty). 10+2 passed with Maths and Physics from an education board recognized by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE).
  2. Navik (Domestic Branch). 10th Class passed from an education board recognized by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE).
  3. Yantrik. 10th class passed from an education board recognized by Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE)” and “Diploma in Electrical/ Mechanical / Electronics/ Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering of duration 03 or 04 years approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)”.
    OR
    10th & 12th class passed from an education board recognized by Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE)” AND“ Diploma in Electrical/ Mechanical / Electronics/ Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering of duration 02 or 03 years approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)”.
2. Age Criteria:- Minimum 18 Years and maximum 22 years as follows:-
  1. Navik (GD) & Yantrik. Born between 01 Feb 2000 to 31 Jan 2004 (both dates inclusive).
  2. Navik (DB). Born between 01 Apr 2000 to 31 March 2004 (both dates inclusive).
Note:- Upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy) candidates is applicable only if posts are reserved for them.

Selection Procedure

(a) The 'Online' Applications will be sorted out Centre-wise. Call-up letters cum e-admit cards for eligible shortlisted candidates indicating the date, time, and place for the recruitment tests, would be required to be downloaded from the internet site www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in. The call-up letters cum e-admit card will be tentatively uploaded on the CG recruitment website. No separate call-up letters cum e-admit cards will be issued.

(b) The Selection procedure is as follows:-
  • Short-listing criteria will be based on a higher percentage of marks for a particular examination Centre.
  • The qualifying cut-off percentage (%) of a particular Centre may be increased if the number of applications with the higher percentage is received.
  • The written examination will be of objective type, which will generally cover subjects Quantitative Aptitude, Mathematics, General Sciences, General English, General Awareness (Current Affairs & General Knowledge), and Reasoning (Verbal & Non-Verbal).
  • Those who qualify for written examination will undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and Initial Medical Examination (Preliminary). The testing procedure will take 2-3 days. Physically Challenged candidates are not eligible to apply for this examination.
(c) Physical Fitness Test (PFT):- PFT will be conducted for all those who qualify for the written tests. All candidates are advised to be in possession of a sports rig (Shoe, T-shirt, trousers, socks, etc). Qualifying PFT as per standards prescribe and given below is compulsory.

(d) The PFT will consist of:-
  • 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes.
  • 20 Squat ups (Uthak Baithak)
  • 10 Push up.
(e) Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.

(f) Candidates who qualify for the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will only be required to undergo an initial recruitment medical examination at the respective recruitment Centres or any other place as decided by the Indian Coast Guard.
(g) Based on the performance in the written examination, candidates will be shortlisted for medical examination in a ratio as may be decided by the Indian Coast Guard. Mere declaration of fit in the initial medical examination does not indicate the selection of the candidate for the final medical at INS Chilka.

(h) The select list will be prepared from the candidates who qualify in all the tests depending on the available vacancies. The Zone wise select list of candidates will be displayed on the Indian Coast Guard Websitewww.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in in the month of March 2021. It is clarified that the merit list will be zone-wise and not center-wise.

Medical Standards

(a) Medical examination will be conducted by authorized Military Doctors as per medical standards prescribed in current regulations applicable to Enrolled Personnel on entry.
(b) Height. The minimum height is 157 cms. Reduction in height for candidates from hilly areas and tribal areas will be in accordance with the Central Govt. orders.
(c) Chest. Should be well proportioned. Minimum expansion 5 cms.
(d) Weight. Proportionate to height and age plus or minus 10 percentage acceptable.
(e) Hearing. Normal.
(f) Fitness Level. History of Cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like knock knee, flat feet, etc. infection of ears, history of fits or psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, undergone corrective surgery for eyesight, etc is not eligible.
(g) Visual Standard. 6/36 (Better Eye) and 6/36 (Worse Eye).
(h) Tattoo. Permanent body tattoos are not permitted on any part of the body. However, certain concessions are permitted to candidates belonging to tribal areas communities as declared by the Govt. of India. For other candidates, permanent body tattoos are only permitted on the inner face of forearms i.e. from inside of elbow to the wrist, and on the reverse side of the palm/ back (dorsal) side of a hand. (j) Candidates with requisite Medical standards which are preliminary indicative of required fitness level are only to appear for the selection. No waiver will be given for the above standards specified. The Coast Guard Order on Medical Standards of Naviks will be the final authority in case of any dispute. Applicants, declared permanently medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in previous recruitment for the same entry in the Indian Coast Guard are advised not to apply.

How to Apply

(a) Applications will be accepted 'Online only'. Candidates are to log on to www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in and click on the opportunities button on the scroll available under the heading "NEW EVENTS" on the CG recruitment website. The important instructions for filling out an online application are as follows:-
  • Select the advertisement for Recruitment of Navik (GD).
  • Select the post applied for Navik.
  • Read the instruction and Click on the 'I Agree' button. In doing so, the 'Online Application' will be displayed on a screen.
  • Proceed to fill up the application {All Star (*) marked entries are compulsory and to be filled}.
  • The Name of the Candidate, Father and Mother's name, and date of birth should be as mentioned as per the 10th class certificate.
  • Indicate the exact percentage of 10thclassgraded up to two decimals and this is not to be rounded off.
  • Filling up information like the personal e-mail ID and mobile number of the candidates is compulsory. The date, time, and Centre of the written examination and other information will be informed through the Coast Guard Recruitment website www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in.
  • Candidates have to upload the photograph and signature in .jpeg format (image quality 200 dpi). The size of the photograph and signature must be between 10 kb to 40 kb and 10 kb to 30 kb respectively.
  • The application provides the choice of only One Centre for examination. The candidates are to choose Centre from the list mentioned against each state to which he belongs (Domicile). Note:
  • On successful submission of the online application, a unique Application/ Registration number will be provided to the candidates. Candidates must note down this application number for future reference and for retrieval/ print of the e-Admit card. Applicants to take the printout of the e-Admit card through URL http://joinindiancoastguard.gov.in/print.aspx.
  • For candidates NOT meeting the eligibility criteria, a ‘Rejection Slip, giving the cause of rejection with the Application Number’ will be displayed. Short-listing criteria will be based on a higher percentage of marks for a particular examination Centre.

List of Documents

Scrutiny of documents for eligibility will be carried out prior to the commencement of the written examination at a venue. Candidates are, therefore, required to appear at the examination Centre with the following original documents. Original documents will be returned after verification:-
  • Three copies of the e-Admit card with the latest photograph affixed.
  • Original Class 10th pass certificate and mark sheet.
  • Original Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  • Domicile certificate of their respective state issued by Tehsildar/ Sub District Magistrate/ District Magistrate.
  • Proof of identity such as Passport, Driving License, Aadhar Card/ Voter ID Card, Pan Card, School/ College ID Card, or any other photo identity proof.
  • Photocopies of all required documents self-attested such as 10th class pass certificate and mark sheet, caste certificate wherever required and sports certificate, etc. Qualified candidates will be required to submit one copy of all documents at the examination Centre.
  • In the case of reserved category applicants, availing age/ percentage relaxation, either the current or permanent address of the online application should be the same as the address mentioned in the caste/ category certificate (SC, ST & OBC). Further, in the case of OBC, the category certificate should not be more than 3 financial Years old and for such cases renewed/fresh certificate to be produced shall be in original as per the Govt. of India format (No other format will be entertained).
  • Ten recent color passport size photographs with a blue background.
  • Photographs shall not be older than one month.
  • Candidates not in possession of the above documents will not be permitted to appear in the written examination.
